Max - Hand-Beaded Accessories, Mexico City
Max (25) alongside Don Lucho (67) have been creating glass bead jewellery and Huichol (an ancient Mexican folk art) style pieces for years. Max began his business seven years ago just after finishing school.
Max is originally from Nueva Colonia, Jalisco, and is part of an indigenous community called Wixárika, also know as Huicholes. This community keeps alive their traditions, fiestas and traditional clothing, which have been passed down from generation to generation. Max learnt how to bead from his parents, and has since taught them to his children.
We have been working with Max to create our unique beaded straps and jewellery for over 2 years. We have supplied him with a constant and steady flow of work and income ever since, paying between 5 and 7 times the minimum wage per strap.
